RED (Rehabilitation Enables Dreams) is a Georgia domestic public charity nonprofit corporation that Trinity Chapel and several other churches in the area are working with. RED engineers rehabilitation programs for pre and post adjudication first-time, nonviolent, youthful offenders. RED’s rehabilitative programs enhance the employment potential of individuals with a criminal record while emphasizing the safekeeping of our communities.
The primary focus of RED is to stop recidivism. Recidivism refers to an individual’s relapse into criminal behavior. The United States has the highest documented incarceration rate in the world. Recidivism negatively impacts unemployment rates and economic freedom, forces excess taxpayer contributions to the criminal justice system and most importantly, compromises the safety of our communities.
Georgia’s incarceration rate is 32% higher than the national average. Georgia leads the nation with over 160,000 probationers which is 321% higher than the national average. In stopping recidivism, we plan to partner with RED to foster upward social mobility, optimize allocation of taxpayer dollars and enhance community experiences. Trinity Chapel is looking to provide more mentors and volunteers to assist with rehabilitating youthful offenders in and around Cobb County and Atlanta.
